So new Mac OS 11.0.1 GM is out! Go download it
This is a release candidate and not a true GM. The installer and "About this Mac" still says 'Beta', so this is definitely not the latest build that the public will be getting. It's not uncommon to have multiple release candidates before the final release.

RC is GM. The term golden master has been replaced by release candidate.

Hold on, I caught your "It's not uncommon" sentence after posting this reply. I agree that it's not uncommon to see other RC seeds before final release, but we are extremely close.

Right, I agree...the key word is "near final". Many people use RC and GM interchangebly even though it may not be proper. All I'm saying is that this isn't the final version/build that the public will be getting (which many people seem think it is). The installer and "About this Mac" still says "beta", so there will at least be another build that doesn't say this and have other beta related stuff removed.

So if you're already running the beta, go ahead and install it. But if you're looking to do an upgrade or clean install with the final version/build, then you'll need to wait a bit longer.

Think of the term "release candidate" as meaning "If everything works as intended, this is what we'll release to the public. Otherwise, we'll make those final tweaks and test an updated version prior to release."

Exactly, but as mentioned before, it still says "beta" in various places. So there is no chance of this being the build that’s released to the public. It seems odd they left the beta references in the RC since it requires another build to remove them. A new build always has a chance to introduce bugs, though probably very slim in this case.

Even if this RC build becomes the same as public release, you should still reinstall from the App Store to get rid of that beta wording 😝😝😝

If you’re a dev with a permanent beta test drive then carry on updating that drive via software update of course.

RE: RC vs GM, I noticed they released RC builds (?) of 14.2 last week of iOS, and when it was released released, I had a new "final" build to install. So... yeah. That's new for Apple. The release version is the "final" final. They added one more cycle for fixes than they used to I think. If that makes sense? The RC is as good as gold for the most part though.
