Could someone please tell me how to take a screenshot (think it's called a "screen grab")?

It's probably really simple, in safari I can see something that looks like it..but it's greyed out!

Thanks in advance :)

Shift-command-3 to get the whole screen, Shift-command-4 to do a user-definable area. :)

---edit: Yeah, what adk said. Apple, Command, the squiggly clover thing -- all the same key.

Hold down Shift and Apple and then press 3 to get a fullscreen shot. If you just want a small part of the screen then hold down Shift and Apple and then press 4, which turns the cursor into a X with circle around it. Youcan just drag this on the screen and it will take a screenshot or the highlighted area. Unlike windows it will create a file that's saved onto the desktop, instead of just being copied.

Throw Control into the party to save the image to the clipboard.

And if you forget the shortcuts in the future, there is an application in the Utilities folder called Grab. Its sole function is to make screen shots.

And since we're being complete, you can also do it with Preview. There are Grab commands under the File menu.

Or if you are feeling adventurous, you can try using the Terminal

The 'screencapture -c' does what it says on the tin - captures the screen and places it on the clipboard - you can then paste to wherever you want.

There are more options - type 'man screencapture' for info.

(above information pinched from yellow5 here)

I like using an app called SnapNDrag (free) for taking selected snippets of the screen. Great for taking a shot of something and then dragging it into a document or an e-mail.

I've never used it. Is it any different from "command + shift + 4" ?
