So my old iPhone got smashed, and I got a new one from my insurance and set it up as a new device, to get a new slate.

However, when I connect it to my mac, these are the only options I get, and I don't want either of them. Is there any way around this? I just want to add files on VLC. ?

Assuming that your iPhone is, indeed set up already...restart your Mac and try again. Relaunch the Finder. Worst case, you may have to restore from backup. Others, feel free to chime in here as well.

Setup as new. It will keep a clean slate. Drag/drop your VLC files via Finder. Done.
