Mac Os Sierra and iMac end 2012

Hello,

Is Sierra more efficient on an iMac end 2012 / i7 3.4 / Nvidia
GTX 675 MX 1024 Mb with web driver dowloaded on InsanelyMac ? The person who owns the iMac doesn't care about the new features, but would like faster access to her files with the finder, or faster startup when switching on her computer, or better graphic performances when playing in Second Life (virtual world, for those who don't know it), for example. The iMac is actually with the last release of El Capitan.

If the iMac has a platter-based hard drive inside, it could be slowing things down. The OS runs much more slowly on an HDD.

Get a USB3 external SSD, plug it into the iMac, and use that as "the boot drive".
EVERYTHING will run much faster.

You DON'T have to open the iMac and put one inside -- risky business, something could end up broken. You literally have to "pry the iMac apart" to do this.

Get either a "bare" SSD and put it into a USB3/SATA enclosure that supports UASP, or get a "ready to go" USB3 SSD, something like this would do:

OP:

Impossibly to answer because speed is influenced by many other things instead of only graphics drivers.

Web driver is newer than the one included in the OS so it might contain optimisations that help.

On the other hand if the iMac has too little RAM or worn out hard drive/ SSD newer driver isn't going to help.

If the iMac doesn't contain SSD I would recommend following Fishrrman advice, opening the iMac is risky if one isn't experienced with computer repair.

Furthermore if it only has 4 Gb of RAM it would be good idea to add more RAM, 1 or 2 sticks of 4 Gb RAM is reasonable priced.

It works fine. Launching apps and opening files are faster. Thank you
