Our networked environment macs at work keep creating multiple preferences files and appending random strings of numbers to end of them.

It's playing havoc with logging on and applications, things like applications opening up on login, and slowing accounts down, or even leaving username and passwords on the login screen after a user has logged out.

Has anyone come across an issue like this before?

Do you have Profile Manager configured on your server? I've had that be a root of problems with users having issues log in/push out settings.

And when a user logs off, is the "Reopen windows when logging back in" checked? This caused many accounts in my lab to take forever to log in.

I'll check with the system admin.

But the problems definately stop happening after deleting the duplicate plists
