mac/pc game where I can destroy my co-workers?

A long time ago my co-workers and I would stay after work a bit and blow off some steam in multiplayer games like Descent 2 and the original Unreal Tournament.

Well, I'd like to give them the smackdown again... but am not up to speed on current games.

Can you recommend a good FPS or anything that would be fun for 4-5 people to play? Preferably it would run on both PC and Mac. The slowest computer it would run on would probably be a Mac Pro with 7300 video card.

Unreal tournament 2004 is a great game or if you want to play a classic which is a bit dated but is still a personal favorite of mine you could go and play Quake 3.
 
Destroy your co-workers?!?

When I saw the title I thought of that game from older came from Ambrosa Harry the Handsome Executive. To bad it is needs classic to run, lucky for me I haven't switch to an intel machine yet :p
 
I would suggest Unreal Tournament 2004 as well. If you have enough co-workers, I'd suggest the Onslaught game type as it's team-oriented and alot more fun than Deathmatch or CTF.

What about quake 4?

Not nearly as old as quake 3, and runs great on my 20" first gen intel iMac with 256 VRAM and 2 gigs of RAM.

I personally liked the single player better... multiplayer was a little too fast for my taste.
That, and they lost my interest when they released the mac patches months after the pc ones.

I remember many a 3 hour lunch playing Descent and Descent 2 against the others in my office. We had a separate ethernet network and netware server just so we could play without being detected. ( We limited it to 3 hours because 3:00pm was snack machine time. :) )

I really miss those days. :(

indeed, u should try out open arena and go to the rainbow instagib corkscrew servers, THEY ROCK
 
slightly different from the other suggestions but Ghost Recon. Works perfectly on my Powerbook G4 and on my room mates macbook.

Although it is very realistic enormous tension grows as someone takes out your team or something like that! Its a great single player too!

But if you want something free kinda like quake you could try Nexuiz which I downloaded yesterday which could be pretty fun with a load of mates!
 
Unreal Tournament 2004. IMO the best candidate. I love this game.

Aside from FPS, I'd recommend Starcraft. Its RTS though, but the best one atm.

Team Fortress 2

For the shooter types who can stand windoze enough to play a game, check out Team Fortress 2... Runs great on MBP 17" Santa Rosa under bootcamp, and windowz corp version.

Well I still play it sometimes and its amazing, the physics are so damn funny, a well placed rocket can keep a corpse flying for like 3 seconds and it even slides when it touches the floor.

Great great game, if you can get your friend into Marathon I assure you'll have an incredible time.

Or you could always have play Quinn on multiplayer :p (hell of a lot more fun than you think).

Hear hear. I just installed it a week ago, and have spent more hours than I care to admit playing this (and I haven't really gotten sucked into a game like this for many years). A friend of mine and I have been playing the multiplayer mode almost every day during this week, as well (we also have a live audiochat running in the background, either through Skype or iChat, which adds yet another dimension to the game). So much fun! I only wish there was a way for my Windows friends to join in . . . other than that, though, it is one (understated) little masterpiece of a game.
