This is the game maxed (all options on)in 1920 x 1200 The mac version looks noticeably blurry and primitive, while the windows version looks quite glorious I must say. In my mind its almost like PS2 VS PS3. Not to mention I am getting double the FPS in windows than mac. To my understanding the mac version will improve with updates and such, and maybe apple will do something about gaming performance now that steam is out. I suggest installing windows via bootcamp, as you get free portal on windows to through steam.

EDIT: THE GAME NOW LOOKS JUST AS GOOD AS THE WINDOWS VERSION NOW THAT THE PATCH HAS BEEN APPLIED! THE LEFT IS BEFORE THE PATCH. THE RIGHT (WINDOWS) IS PRETTY MUCH WHAT THE GAME LOOKS LIKE NOW!

:eek:WINDOWS VERSION ON THE RIGHT:eek:

They may look different side-by-side but are you actually going to notice while playing?

I've had no framerate issues and I'm enjoying the game immensely (I've played it in the past but it was a while ago). I haven't noticed anything "wrong" with the Mac version, and even if I had, it's free! Really can't complain there.

I don't really see why this should make anyone wait to play the game. The reason that Portal os great is because of the ways it makes you think not because of it graphics. Besides I can barely see a difference in those pics.

What absolute horse sh*t.

Side by side comparison shots are one of the worst things about the current console generation, from a gamers point of view. Total nonsense and largely irrelevant troll feed that are a waste of everybody's time. Perhaps except for rare occasions - such as Bayonetta - when things like framerate and performance issues make one version of the game significantly better than the other.

Portal runs well in Mac OS X and unless you're going to sit and run the Mac and Windows versions side by side, frame by frame, the differences will be totally irrelevant to anyone actually playing the game.

To suggest there's an entire generation leap in those screenshots is totally mental, in all fairness.

Turn off color correction and watch the blurriness that you're complaining about go away.;)

I am just a casual gamer and I noticed in the first minute of playing it was not the full experience. Don't lie to yourself. How could anyone who played both games, who knows the first the about graphics not feel the same? This are are very small images, when looking a full size photo, its really even more noticeable. Not sure why your so passionate about defending something that is clearly inferior. I am not a troll in any way, I despise windows but when it comes to gaming well obviously you can see from above which platform wins. I said it almost looks like a last gen console game( perhaps a really good XBOX one, but nevertheless). I am just trying to help my fellow gamers out. I will try color correct setting and report back. Like I said I get double performance in windows anyway, seriously.

The blurry-color-correction bug is being worked on right now, by top men.

Top. Men.

lol

nah but seriously - its just a fact of life, until if ever apple decides its worth its time to go after the gaming market, mac versions are always going to be lesser beasts. to a greater or lesser degree in each case, sure; but its just a fact of life that osx video drivers and opengl in osx are not updated at the speed that windows video card drivers and directx are.

if you want to squeeze the best possible result out of your hardware, bootcamp is your poison. if you want to like you know play games, go the mac version and its fine.

People told me similar things before we doubled the speed of WoW on Intel Mac, with help from Apple and the GPU vendors.

I prefer to keep working on specific issues and tuning as we go, rather than throw in the towel.

have fun,

Now just need to work on the fact that the patch made all my portals black! I've been reading this thread: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?p=14918828 and forcing the game into windowed mode fixes it. Hopefully a patch will be issued soon, I was very impressed with the speed of patching since the game went live yesterday!

Welcome to the world of Valve!

They may take their time and "miss" a deadline, but they sure as hell patch as soon as a bug is fixed. It's not uncommon to see a recent release or update get patched 2+ times in the course of a day. Sometimes you never see or notice the issues getting fixed.

I wish all companies would take a good long look at how Valve works its updates...
