I have a Mac Pro 5,1 with boot rom 144.0.0.0.0 and the Pixlas mod. I did the dosdude patcher today and attempted to install my 5700 xt, all I got was a black screen but everything works just fine with my XFX rx580. Do I need to install drivers or are AMD's drivers built into Mac OS?

You'll need Catalina(at least 10.15.2) and OpenCore(for boot screen and selector+FileVault support) to run the 5700 XT on the 5,1. The drivers aren't included in Mojave. I'm running the PowerColor 5700XT Red Dragon + EVGA Powerlink on mine (no pixlas mod)

One more note, the HDMI doesn't work well on the 5700XT under Catalina so use DisplayPort. I've tested this with two PowerColor cards and the reference card and all had problems.

Pre-configured OpenCore package at post 1314 with DRM support and full hardware acceleration

Installed open core, and still nothing. The card isn't even showing in my system report. I don't understand why the pic slot isn't reading that the card is there

If you do power it properly. And already tried re-seat the card, re-connect the cables, etc. Then may be it's a faulty card.

Thats what I was thinking, so I went to MicroCenter and bought a new identical card and I'm having the same issue

Do you mean that you have a Dosdude patched Catalina (10.15.2 or above) is running well with the RX580, but if you swap in a 5700XT, it won't work?

If yes, that may be because of you patched the macOS.

Install OpenCore with your RX580 (you can use cdf's default publish config), boot to Catalina recovery (for RX580, please only connect one monitor to a display port). Re-install Catalina once more at there (you can install that on top of your current Catalina). That should effectively unpatch the macOS (as least anything about video drivers should go back to their vanilla state).

Then try again to see if the 5700XT can work again.

I am not very sure how Dosdude patcher works, but your are not the first one to report this issue.

Since most Mac cannot change GPU, therefore, this can't be a wide spread issue. But some people may install Mojave / Catalina with their original Apple GPU (e.g. HD5870), then further upgrade to something like RX580. However, the new GPU doesn't work until they re-install an unpatched macOS again.

It may not be your issue, but worth to try anyway.

@tsialex Bro, I could really used some help if you have the time. I've been trying for two week to get my Red Devil rx 5700 xt to work in my cMP. Please point me in the right direction, I'm totally stumped at this point.

Sorry, but I can't help you besides telling you that you have to install OpenCore + Catalina and correctly power your GPU.

I have both, plus I am running the pixlas mod. So should I just say the hell with it and stay with the RX 580? Cause I’m exhausted at this point.

Did you tested the GPU with a PC to be sure that is working?

A RX5700XT should work fine with a clean install of Catalina with OpenCore and Pixla's mod. Don't use dosdude/or any other hacked install of Catalina.

Ok, I’m gonna try and get it tested in a Pc to see if it’s working. I’ll get back to you afterwards. Thanks bro

It will be very useful to future readers if you please explain what went wrong and how did you correct it.

so my dilemma was actually all my fault. Three of the male connectors on the pixlas mod weren’t pushed in properly to the female line splicers. Thus the card was receiving adequate power. @tsialex mentioned this to me earlier which made me check my connections. So thanks bro, truly appreciate the help.
