Hi all. I'm aware that El Cap is the latest macos that can be run on the 1,1/2,1. I was wondering if it would be possible to make a sort of hybrid OS by pulling some of the components from, say, Mojave onto an El Cap install? Obviously the kernel won't work, but how about other bits?

Going to System Profiler > Software > Components on my 2015 MBP lists hundreds of components, including such things as mpeg decoders, 32 and 64 bit processors for audio etc... and there's a number of standard apps in the Applications bit that have different (later) version numbers from those in El Cap.

Wondered if anyone had tried porting later components over yet? If not I'll maybe give it a try?

What you’re after sounds interesting, but tedious. Most newer macOS applications may have requirements for functionality implemented in newer frameworks or kernel extensions; you’d need to determine what dependencies a given application had, and migrate these as well.

Naturally, these themselves may well have their own dependencies, and so on. Is there a specific goal you’re after?

El Cap as you may be aware is now out of support, so there won’t be any future security updates.

Hi @Draeconis I'm just curious. I have a 1,1 with the usual upgrades I tinker with just as a hobby... I might give it a go and see what happens. Thanks for the reply :)
