I need your help
I have the Mac Pro 1.1 2006 23GB Ram, 2TB HDD and 240GB SSD
I'm planing to change the processors from 2.66 Ghz to Intel Xeon X5365 3.0 Ghz LGA quad core CPU SLAED 8M/1333
I have the original GPU Nvidia 7300GT, it works great with OSX Lion but i get waves and it is slow on Mavericks and Yosemite.
I guess i need to change GPU, I need your suggestion on that. What GPU do you recommend.
If possible i wish to run OSX Lion from time to time because i have apps that i do not know if i can transfer them to Yosemite, can i leave the existing GPU in and add a second newer GPU? or I can only have have one GPU.
What is the best GPU that can run Mac pro smooth right now with Yosemite?
Thank you in advance for you reply.

You don't mention which applications you need acceleration for. That can make a big difference, so I'll respond in general terms.

For official cards, I think the best you can do in a Mac Pro 1.1 that works with both Lion and Yosemite, and has boot screens, is the Apple 5870.

For unofficial cards there is much discussion here about MP1.1-compatible GPU cards:

Yes you can run two cards if you want.

The best GPU right now is the Titan X. I don't know if that is compatible with a 2006 Mac Pro though. It's probably not practical anyway--the rest of your computer will be holding it back.

P.S. 23GB of RAM?

yes, but issue is that 7950/70 will show lovely boot screens but never get to desktop in a 1,1 running 10.7.5

Needs one of the boot.efi mods and 10.8 or later

stinks but how it is

I need microsoft office 2011, Logic Pro 9

Any supported GPU will be fine for these apps. I'd get a cheap PD HD 5770 (~50$) and flash it.

Of course you could keep your old 7300 in but I see no point in doing so as it's no longer supported since 10.8.
