MAC PRO 1.1 CPUs upgrade with one problem

Hi,
i've upgraded my mac pro 1,1 2Ghz to 2x5355 cpu.
it seems all went well, except for one thing.

When i turn on the mac i hear the classic bip, but the screen still grey without apple logo and the system is not loaded.
The only way to turn it on is hold the power button until led begins to flash, the mac beeps and then it loads the system.

All this seems to happen only when the machine is cold.... if i shutdown and reboot the mac (in normal mode) it's all ok....

Any ideas??

Try shutting down, disconnecting all power for 15 seconds. Then reboot and reset the PRAM

thanks for the answer, these are the attempts that have just tried:
- disconnecting all power for 15 seconds. Then reboot and reset the PRAM
- disconnecting 1900xt (flashed)
- disconnecting all usb device and network
- checked all sticks of ram

....nothing resolved...

Did you try to boot from another disk / install CD to check whether your system disk is intact?

yes for reset SMC but did not solve

I've 2x5355 SLAEG

when it is frozen doesn't start from CD, doesn't work target disk, doesn't work brutal eject of dvd,..... it is simply frozen.....:(

This evening i try to upgrade the efi to 2.1....
 
Re-reading your original post I realized that your description reminds me of old Amiga 4000's upgraded to the max. With age components may start to become flakey (capacitors, [pull-up] resistors, soldering points, connectors, PSU) and when you try to start up a cold machine a reset may be necessary, after which the components have heated up sufficiently/got their full capacity to properly start up the system.

If your EFI upgrade should not be able to cure the symptoms, try to strip the machine to the bare necessities (i.e. only boot drive and minimum Ram connected/inserted plus smallest possible graphic card) and see whether you still require a second reset on a cold machine.

Btw.: Does the soft reset via keyboard work in the "frozen" state after cold boot up?

I've upgraded to Efi 2.1.

Do you get the Apple logo while booting? When I upgraded to 2.1, the apple logo wouldn't show up... it did boot fine tho. (I ended up going back to 1.1 with no issues...)

Yes i get Apple logo. Now MP works perfectly.

Now next upgrade is 6870 xfx, ssd 250gb, blueray lg, +8gb (tot 19 gb), webcam logitech hd pro.

another 5 years of life for my Mac!!

The only problem I have seen antares74 after doing the netkas EFI update to Mac Pro 2.1 is on occasions the exhaust and CPU fans will increase speed and of course volume. Resetting the SMC fixes it and then no more problems for the next month or two.

Personally believe after the machine has been asleep, restarting the SMC is confused because of the quad core CPU's and assumes the original dual cores must be running hot and up go the fans.

Have tried looking for a 2.1 SMC firmware update but the one available from Apple does not install and so am stuck with the original Mac Pro 1.7f10 firmware.

And the boot sequence is normal with the 2.1 upgrade to MP21.007F.B06

Have read some early 2006 Mac Pros do not accept the firmware update easily which results in the boot problem.

I have that same after waking from sleep with 1.1 EFI and 5160s (originally machine had 5150s installed). But I do not bother because fans are revving up just for a moment then they back to normal speeds. SMC reset didn't help.
