3 days ago I installed Windows 10 on my Mac Pro 1,1 without the use of bootcamp. Everything works except every half hour to 2 hours the computer completely locks up and freezes and I have to hold the power button to shut it down. This usually happens under heavy load.

On El Capitan it never froze so I'm very confused; if anyone can shed some light on this, I'd be most grateful.

Do you run any win32 soft that actively monitors/controls the fans (e.g., smcFanControl, Macs Fan Control, etc.)?

It sounds like my past (similar) experiences when using Win32 on my 1,1

Apple's SMC monitors/controls the thermals, natively, but when stepping out of spec (like using processors faster than BTO, installing an OS different than OS X, etc.), the load is often not natively taken into account.

I run two x5675's with six 16GiB ram dimms (and a 980Ti) in my 5,1, and I need (particularly in Summer) more granular fan control . . . in my case, I use iStat Menus to create configurable fan profiles.

P.S., try to keep your posts to one sub-forum, as it can attract more dedicated answers, and not efectively dilute your responses ;)

No I just have a partition with El Capitan on and another with Windows 10 on
What video card are you using? When you say you did not use bootcamp does it mean you installed it in EFI mode? If you are not sure see what is the output of the diskutil list in EC.
[doublepost=1548943530][/doublepost]I had similar issue with my flashed R9 280X. The solution was to revert to the Microsoft basic display adapter driver.

Yes I installed it in EFI mode.

I have a Radeon 5770 that is semi-flashed? It shows boot screen with DVI adapter. I have played games etc on the Mac for an hour or so until it freezes so would this possibly be the display driver?

Interestingly, I've just noticed it freezes predominantly when I'm using Google Chrome.

So you have HD5770 not the MAC edition? I guess if you have another card to install alongside you could see if when it freezes you have an output to the other screen.
[doublepost=1548949112][/doublepost]Maybe you can try to install bootcamp control panel with brigadier? THis will bring you the updated drivers. I am not sure though how it works on the 1.1 Mac.

That's correct but I don't have another graphics card, would the internal chipset graphics output be worth trying?

I think it is a driver issue moreover you have flashed hd5770, which is known to cause problems. Also you are running EC so you must have used the @dosdude1 hack to install it right?

I used Pike Loader (can't remember the exact name) and I've flashed the EFI and SMC to 2,1. Interestingly, the Mac has just crashed again and the hard drive goes straight into idle.

Try running it in safe mode with networking. If it does not crash when using Chrome then it must be a driver issue.

Just thought I'd update - managed to find the problem.

I had a few faulty sticks of RAM that was making it crash, replaced all of them and it's running problem free.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions.
