I bought a Mac Pro 1.1 on the cheap yesterday. It works great, but the video card (7300 GT) sucks. Hence, I am looking for a new video card. After reading a few discussions here, I noted that the Radeon 7850 is apparently the best video card that works with boot screens. However, someone also said that there is little advantage of the Radeon 5870 over the 5770, since the Mac Pro 1.1 only supports PCIe 1. Now I am wondering whether this also applies for the Radeon 5770 and the 787 or not. Could anyone here help me out with this?

The HD 5870 is a lot faster than the HD 5770, I'm sure you'd see an improvement in most applications when upgrading from a 5770 to a 7850.
However I'm not sure if the 7850 should be recommended for flashing. As far as I know, the 2xmDP; 1xDVI, 1xHDMI layout is very rare on this card, and others will lose a lot of ports when flashing it.

Thanks for answering. Consider I'd buy a HD 5870 or a HD 6870 and flash the card with Netkas' rom, would I get any boot screen on a Mac Pro 1.1? The answers seem to contradict.
