Hi all,

I have a MacPro 1,1 with an ATI x1900xt currently running Lion. I've had a plan to upgrade to Mavericks at some point using the tiamo method, but my plan is now accelerated due to the fact that my video card crapped out today!

I don't do any 3D work, no gaming, minimal photoshop--I don't need a horse! I'm just looking for a fairly basic card (I'm assuming literally anything will be better than the x1900xt) I can install that will let me install Mavericks?

Thanks,
-K

Nvidia gt-640

I picked up a brand new ASUS NVIDIA GT-640 (PC card) for $99 and it works perfectly (no bootscreen though). I chose this card because it does not require extra power from the motherboard and speeds up standard OSX functions just fine. I am not into gaming or highly graphics intensive applications either.

Is it really a 405?

Seems more likely it is a 450

Haha, yeah it really is a Geforce 405. It's a little half size card with a DVI and HDMI port, it's available with a full size bracket with a VGA port as well. I bought it to go in my Inspiron 530S Hackintosh. Of course any graphics intense operations are less than ideal, but hell, for $20 who's complaining?

EDIT:

Ebay has a few at $45, but my purchase history shows I paid $25 with free shipping. Must have been a good buy.

Thanks for the suggestion I ordered a GT-640 via Amazon Prime, installed it this morning, and it actually even works in 10.7.4! I was afraid I might have to upgrade to at least Mountain Lion before it would work.

Very cool.

Any possibility of flashing the card to support Boot Screen? I've got an EVGA GT630 which will probably work except no boot screen.

I've got a MP 1,1 with x5355s but the standard 7300GT. Looking to upgrade it to something that has boot screens.

Card for 1,1 & Mavericks

When I first got my Mac Pro 2006 running 10.8, It worked great with my flashed 4870, though the Apple OEM cards were 512MB?

Plenty on eBay.

Many instructions around to flash.

If you are looking for a "Mac" card, I have an 8800GT that works in Mavericks. PM me if interested.
