Okay so I’m gonna try to explain this problem as best as I can. I’m really not a computer expert but not completely computer illiterate either.

So I did the Tiamo upgrade to my Mac Pro 1,1 to bring it back to life and I guess I put Mavericks on it from looking back in my records although this ****ing thing hasn’t started in so long I don’t remember exactly what OS I upgraded it to.

This thing worked for a very long time but then one day, it just stopped booting into the OS. Of course, with the upgrade, you lose boot screens so it’s very difficult needless to say to diagnose problems.

if you unplug it and plug it back it, I’m immediately greeted with the chime sound without even pressing the power button, but it’s never able to boot into OS.

I’ve also tried turning it off and back on and so forth and same deal.

it always just eventually turns itself off.

I’ve tried putting in a new graphics card, same problem.

does anyone know what the problem is here? I know a bunch of people have done this Tiamo upgrade so I’m sure I’m not the only one that’s faced this problem….

It’s when you bring a Mac Pro 1,1 past Lion.

Oh, I see. I upgraded the OS on my MP1,1 using a prebuilt disk image without knowing the name of the method.
The modification is on the storage side only.
There are two sources to detect the issue:
1. The diagnotic LEDs on the logic board
2. Plug in the stock graphic card to see if anything appears on the monitor.

The original graphics card won’t work with the version of Mac OS that’s installed on it, the original graphics card is too out of date. Part of the upgrade is putting in a higher end Radeon graphics card. I’m also sure I threw the original one out after the upgrade. I also don’t have the original hard drive that has snow leopard on it.

The original card give you the boot screen, and can get you to the desktop, even on El Capitan.
Fresh OS installing need the original cards, so you know where you are.
Without the original card, you basically are blind at boot.
I keep my 7300GT very careful, preparing for situations like this.
