I sure this has been asked a lot but I've been unable to get all the info about this together. I know this upgrade is not very cost effective but would never the less like to know what it would take to convert an old mac pro 1,1 to a 3,1. A new Logic Board, Power supply? Has anyone done this upgrade and what was the process?

My maxed out 3,1 may possibly be available within 4-6 weeks if the 5,1 comes my way. Though if you're not in England, better still within driving distance of South London that may cost rather a lot in shipping cos my missus ever so considerately decided to let the kids have it as a play box while I was working away. It had eye holes cut out on every side and a big escape flap cut out. I laughed too much to get angry about it :D

Great! This is what I was looking for. Looks like a lot of work and and about $450 in parts. It might not be worth the upgrade but good to know the process.

Thanks for the info.

No probs - from a purely fiscal view point the conversion makes no sense, even in these days of reasonable priced second user MP parts - the only way it makes any sense, is in a 'mountaineering', because it was there, and because I could, sort of way - just for the experience, as it were.
