My gt7300 crapped out on my mac pro 1.1. i can only boot in safe mode and I want to get a new card without breaking the bank. The ati hd 5770 can be had for about 250.00 but I want to get something under 100

Would a 8800 gt perform much much better better than my old 7300 ? I know they made a couple of version and I want to make sure I am getting the right one.

Another alternative would be to get a flashed card but i don't ant any problems down the road...

8800GT in Mac pro 1,1 is better than 7300GT.
Want to flash ?
Google it or go to netkas place, many people posted the know-how.
8800GT rom for Mac Pro 1,1--->here

You should search this forum on posts about the 8800gt. You may be setting your 1,1 up for a double "crapper"!

Can anyone recommend a card under $150 which would work right out of the box ? I game a little but not much...

When I had my 2006 1.1 Mac Pro my 7300GT was replaced twice. It's a weak card and does not have a built in fan design wise. I then replaced it with a Radeon 2600XT and worked fine. I think this card goes for $90 to $120. You can also try the Radeon 3870 which is below the $150 price range.

Thanks. Think i'll bite the bullet and get the ati 5770... it's almost $250.00 but it seems like about the only game in town if I want to get an Apple card..
