I have a 2007 mac pro 1,1 Quad Core" 2.66 is powered by two 2.66 GHz dual core Intel Xeon 5150 processors with 2gb ram osx lion and was wondering supposedly i can install some pretty good video cards like a gtx 660.

My current desktop pc has a amd phenom 2 x2 920 quad, 4gb ram and a gtx 560ti which performs little lower than a gtx 660.

So was wondering will the mac pro performance be better compared to the amd desktop I have? This is after i in a better card than the 560ti and more ram like at least 4gb. Thanks

I can chime in here as I went from a PhenomII X4 955 Black Edition DDR2 pc build to my very first mac pro- which was the same 1,1 that you have.

For me, the 2006 mac pro was just a little more powerful then my quad core AMD build at that time. Considering my old 944 Black Edition is more powerful then your 920, id say yes, you should get a decent power gain from the old mac pro.

Alright cool to know, now in my amd pc desktop I have a gtx 560ti card in it obviously its not a current beast of a card but it is direct x 11 card and currently play all the newest games out ie: dying light, lords of the fallen, etc of course its not playable with settings maxed out though.

If the gtx 560ti card will work in the mac pro 1,1 I can still game on the mac pro right? Some games come out with the mac versions right? If not I can always install windows 7 and use that for gaming? Thanks

Im not positive on the 560TI having a native OSX driver built in, someone else on here should chime in for that question as for your graphics card working in OSX. If I were to guess I would say yes, but your best bet is to search the forums for that answer.

As for gaming on a mac pro- don't bother with OSX. Toss in a 2nd hard drive and install windows 7 via bootcamp. In OSX you can use the program Bootchamp to switch to windows after booting into OSX.
You CAN game in OSX. All the games that run in OSX seem to run worse then their windows versions from all my cross-operating system games that I have on steam. I have to lower my graphical settings in OSX more then I have them set in Windows 7.
