Hey guys,

I just bought a GTX 760 for my Mac Pro 4,1. and the specs on it say that its mac Power Consumption is 170 watts, I know the Mac Pro provides up to 225W for the Graphics Card, but the Card has one 8-pin and one 6-pin, I installed it just with the default 2 6-pins on my Mac Pro, and everything seems to work great, although I did a stress test with FirMark, and monitored it with HWMonitor, and it reads that its drawing 85W at the max from the PCIe Booster A while stress testing, is this dangerous? I haven't seen it go above that with any other testing yet.

Thanks,

When I OC my 7950, it can draw up to 105W, I ran my machine with that setting for few weeks, no issue at all. I am quite sure that 75W limit is base on "plenty of buffer". Although I won't recommend this to anyone, my personal limit is 75W x 150% = 112.5W. However, I really don't like the fan noise, so I down clock it from 1050MHz @1.115V to 850MHz @0.975V. And now it only draw 68W max.

I've been running a Gigabyte GTX780 (two 8 pin connectors). The card was modified by MVC with a Mac EFI and two of the connectors pins shorted. It's been running on internal power on my 5,1 for a year now with no issues.

So what is the point of modifying the pins? Is there dangers to plugging a 6-pin into a 8-pin?
