Hi There just a quick question , is the reason my mac pro 1,1 is performing slow graphically with a 5770 its PCIE Bus ? , barely getting 29fps in cinebench when according to the web i should get at least 50 ? ,, any ideas ? xxx

Could be because of the fact the 1,1 Mac Pro is PCIe 1.1 spec while the 5770 is a PCIe 2.0 spec based card. You would be getting half of the performance as its being used in the 1.1 PCIe slot, versus the 2.0. PCIe bus is limited to 1.1 - This could be the reason.

Yeah, that's not it. A 16x PCIE1.1 runs at the same speed as an 8X PCIE2.0 and that hasn't shown any issues with maximizing the speed of the 5770. Something else is up... (bearfeats has already proven that).

What are you looking at that says you should be getting 50fps?

Well i basically looked online and that seems to be the general performance for it , it is a bit disappointing i have spent alot of money on this mac pro over the months

That site only has a few 5770s and only one over 50fps, I think, and that was for for windows 7 and overclocked I think. The few mac OS reports seem to be like 25-20fps.

well then its just the bus i guess , i think im going to have to concider a 2008 Mac Pro , or a MacBook Pro 15.4 2008 , With 2.8Ghz and 9600GT 512MB , i just dont know what to do , but i want you all to know i really appreciate you helpin a girl out ! , thanks xxx

And my 5870 gets 35. It is a sham of a benchmark right now. Please use something else to determine your GPU gains and losses.

Apples 5770 got ~34fps in CB here also, with the CPU at >10 pts.

How about this for testing.
Same 14x9 settings as used by barefeats.com recently, got ~24fps with 19x12

Cinebench is very CPU-limited, especially if you have an old cpu.. You should use Unigine instead to test the GPU.

While my 5770 performs really well in Diablo III and WoW and Skyrim (Cider), regular OS X performance is not much better than the 7300GT it replaced. Scrolling and other tasks seem to be jerky and even stall. I've understood it to be a driver issue with Apple not too interested in fixing it. I hear Nvidia performs much better generally.

Certainly not a bus issue with the 5770. You will possibly start fully saturating the bus with a 5870 or 6870 and even then it's situational and even debatable.

Indeed , i dont get 29fps i get 24fps .... so i think i am selling my mac pro

Wait... so you're selling your Mac Pro because it doesn't achieve the score you want in a synthetic benchmark? What about real world performance in applications you actually use?

For ref I did my Mac Pro ATI 5870 and Macbook Pro 2012 GT 650m.
Same res and settings.
