Hi there, I have been using a 2006 Mac Pro 2.66 quad which has been upgraded for El Capitan and 24gb ram (6x4gb). I recently found a deal on a 2008 model 2.8ghz octo with 16gb ram (4x2gb + 2x4gb). So now I'm preparing to sell the 2006 and trying to decide what to do with the ram. The 2008 has 800mhz sticks and the 2006 has 667, I was thinking of putting all 8x 4gb sticks into the 2008, which would give me 32gb but then run at 667mhz which I've heard is 5% difference in performance. But that means I'm putting the 4x2gb 800mhz into the 2006 which is also kind of a waste as it would run at 667 instead of 800. The 24gb from the 2006 are normal server ram with regular heat spreaders, but everything else has the massive Apple style heat spreaders. I still have my original 4x1gb 667 and 2x512mg 667 with the massive heat sinks as well. So my question is what do you think is the best configuration to sell with the 2006? My thoughts:
1) sell with 4x1gb and 2x512 667 only, keeping the rest for my 2008 or sell some off separately
2) sell with 4x2gb 800 plus 4x1gb 667, keeping 32gb for my 2008
3) sell with all the 667mhz ram 6x4gb, 4x1gb, 2x512, they would have spare sticks

Any thoughts which way is best, or any other ideas? Thanks in advance.

You will get almost nothing for a 1.1 nowadays. I wouldnt think of selling it. Keep it as a spare machine.

If you really want to sell it I'd sell it in minimal config, Ram Sticks tend to fail, keep them as spare parts and sell the 1.1 with 512MB Sticks.

That's a good point about having a spare.

To give you some data points, I sold 3 of these systems (one at a time) on eBay about 2 years ago. The sale price was about $100 for each of them in early 2020, and that was with free shipping for my buyers within the continental United States. My shipping cost ranged from $40–$70, not including the (costly) packing box.

One of them was fully loaded with 32GB of RAM and even that only brought about $160 at that time. As you might guess, I did not make money eBaying these systems. ;) But it wasn't practical for me to sell them locally and it didn't feel right sending them to the recycler; I wanted to find a good home for them.

At this point, unless you can find a local buyer (it might bring enough money to pay for dinner somewhere), I'd just hang onto the 2006 or give it away. The RAM configuration won't make much difference in price, so keep the fastest RAM for your 2008.

If I sell it, it would be through local channels like Craigslist or Kijiji, so shipping is out if the equation. They are still going for around $100 give or take around here in Toronto area, Canada, so it could buy a couple meals and at least it won't sit on my floor.

Wow! Is that bench your creation? It seems like a waste if the systems are still usable (those look like G5's so probably not), but if they weren't working then it's a great use for it!

For 100$, just give the buyer all the RAM stick you can install to that MP.
With the newly purchased MP 3,1 you can use 8GB ram sticks which cost about 8$ each. 4 sticks will give you 32GB already. Don't bother about the RAM bus clock. You won't be able to feel the different in daily usage.

I bought 8 stick of 4GB FCBDIMM for 18$ here in Vietnam. They are just junk now. Their owner would be just happy to get any amount of money from them.

Wait where are you finding 8gb FB ram for $8 a stick? Cheapest I found on ebay is $31 for one.
