Hey, i just bought a 2007 mac pro and i want to upgrade the graphics card in it but i have called so many tech places where i live and all say that it cant be upgraded because its considered 'vintage' but i think that this computer is still a great computer! just needs the graphics to be upgraded.

i have been watching videos on people upgrading there graphics card with pc cards, but they lose the boot screen. i dont see this as an issue but is there other things i should be considering with buying a card and installing.

i have also seen a video with this card "Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 Mac Edition 3GB DDR5" and it comes with the drivers on a CD. would this be as simple as installing the drivers and the card or is there other thing i need to consider?

thank you for your time! Please get back to me! any help will be much appreciated! thank you

Congrats on your Mac Pro purchase. You can also get the Radeon 5870 as it also works in the 2006 Mac Pro https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1002004/

10.9.1 on Mac Pro 2006 and newer

Thank you! i also though i couldn't run mavericks. or is there a way i can?

You can rather easily install Mavericks 10.9.1 on ANY Mac Pro:

I've tried it myself and can confirm it works. I have a flashed ATI 4870 in my 2006 and Mavericks works beautifully.

You have a user called Tiamo for this juicy development :)

okay i will consider that! thank you! also what are your thoughts on the graphics card that i mentioned, this is the video i seen and made me considered it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gUKpOJoJD4

Thank you for all your help!

Hi Adam. The Radeon 7950 might work on your 2006 Mac Pro as long as you have OS 10.8.3 installed as that is where the driver starts for this card unless I am wrong. I think there might be a way to install 10.8.3 on a 2006 Mac Pro. Try checking it HERE
