Hello everybody,

I just bought a new video card but it doesn't seem to get in the slot. Does anybody has some tips or hints? I can slide the 8800 gt nVidia in and out but the ati card just doesn't seem to go completely down which means I can't screw the holder tight (the thing with the two screws).

I hope somebody can help me. Now the 8800 is back in place but it feels like a shame. Perhaps a how to movie?

Thank you!

Sounds like you're doing something wrong. My 5870 went in my 2008 Mac Pro just fine, just had to angle it in.

Hy,

Good to hear it's something I'm doing wrong :).

So what did I do:

1. Removed all of the Hard Drives
2. I loosed the screws and got the plaque out that's holding the card
3. Replace power cables with the 2 included
4. Slide the card in port 1 which barely fitted
5. Tried to slide it in the first port but it doesn't go in all the way (small cm left at the right side).

So do you see something I'm doing wrong? Do I need to remove something? I have the feeling the bottom halve of the card is not really in the right position (it doesn't go all the way down at the right side, you can see it if you look at the back at the ports).

What do you mean by angling it?

What do you mean by angling it?

You have to slide it in diagonally, otherwise you won't get past the case.

However, I didn't understand your procedure, especially steps 4 and 5 are a little confusing (fits in 4, not in 5, albeit the same port [I figure you mean the PCIe slot?]).

Could you maybe make a picture of your exact problem?

I'll make one tomorrow, then I'll have more time. Sorry for the confusion.

I slid the card in the slot where the original 8800 GT was (indeed the PCI slot) and that was the lowest one if you look at the mac pro standing normally.

Sorry for my bad english, it's not my native language.

this shiet right here

can easily get caught in some metallic stuff here

make sure you're not doing that.

I think that's the problem. How do you keep it from doing that? Luckily I didn't force anything I guess ^^.

Although your picture is different from mine (the ports anyhow)

The cards in his pictures are different, but same concept.

I used a screwdriver to guide the card and now it's in there. Yeah!!

Thank you guys for the help.

And no, no hammer was needed, just a wooden plank.
