Mac Pro 2008 do not always turn on

Hi,

Can you help me?

Sometimes when I turn on my Mac Pro, I can ear a click sound from the PSU but the silver light does not turn on and the mac does not start, but sometimes it start and work perfectly (like one our later or one day later...).

Some weeks ago, when I perform a video editing (gopro studio), I heard a high noise like a chirping noise, coming from the PSU and after that the mac suddenly turns off.

Now the mac just start if he wants hahaha...

What is the problem? Should I change the power supply?

It is very expensive.

Or a cable/fan bad contact can do the same problem? I never heard the noise again, but I never use the mac to video edition again.

I'd say very bad idea to run the unit without a new PSU. They can _sometimes_ take components with them (cpus, video cards, you name it they can take their life)

Inspect the mainboard for bad capacitors though it's probably PSU related, weakened overtime combined + high draw, squal + die. If it still works occasionally, it's a solid suggestion of mine to just replace the PSU and not risk further damage, though if the noise came from mainboard etc it's up to you.

Sounds like my first home built PC, put it all together verified works (No OS install) then I put all the lights and fans (ew) and fired it up, first few boots went okay got OS installed, then pewf a squeal + wouldnt boot unless off for a few hours, then would shut off shortly after loading OS. New PSU solved that, and luckily didnt take any of the components.
