Hello everyone, I am new to this forum so if this question has been asked before I am truly sorry. I have a 2008 Mac Pro that has never been modified. One day it would not boot up, so I have done all the SMC resets, changed the battery, removed all the cards, cpu chips, etc. The issue was when I hit the power button, the power supply relay clicked, the power button lights up and stays white, no chime, no video, nothing. I have no USB power, but have power to the superdrive. When I clicked the diagnostics button, the only two led that lite up were led 2 (trickle power yellow) and led 9 (EFI Green) nothing else lights up. So I bought a new power supply from MAC Palace, installed it and got the same results so I am assuming it is the logic board. My question is, my board is a 630-7997, and I double checked and the cpu'c are the 2.8 Xeon chips. When I look for a replacement board everybody has the 661-4676 which is supposed to be 3.2GHz. I hate to get a board and it not work with my 2.8 chips. They also show another board which is 661-4449 2.8/3.0. Can someone please point me in the right direction. Sorry for such a long post, just wanted to make sure I put what Info I have. Thanks everyone, Billy

The replacement part for your Mac Pro is 661-4449.

Any MP3,1 boards work with all processors offered by Apple at the time and some others that are compatible but never offered by Apple, like the 3,17GHz Xeon version, that have a 667 base clock instead of the usual 800MHz.

The part number for the 3.2GHz board is different because the heatsink base is very different with a extremely toxic metallic "thermal paste" and the board has a different replacement process, not the board or the firmware itself. You can see the differences yourself reading the Apple Technician Guide for early-2008 Mac Pro, page 92. Search Google for "Apple Technician Guide for early-2008 Mac Pro".

Thank you so much, I will see if I can find that board and the thermal paste, thanks again, Billy
