Hi,

I've got a dual quad-core 3GHz 2008 Mac Pro w/ a GTX 285. I'm wondering why from time to time it randomly crashes when typing in say an email or a reminder. It's running Mountain Lion, and the problem was there on Lion also, but not Snow Leopard.

Any thoughts on this?

Just curious, are you typing on an Apple Bluetooth keyboard? I use a 2008 8-core at our studio that's connected to one, and every now and then it goes crazy while typing. I have a wired keyboard on my 09 at home and I've never experienced the problem, but I've heard the 06-08's have issues with bluetooth devices.

I have a 2008 dual quad core with the apple blue tooth keyboard, no issues to report here at all, works like a charm.

Thanks for the replies everyone,

No it's an Apple wired keyboard.

My 2008 has had 3 crashes in 6 weeks (kernel panics I believe). By crash I mean the screen greys out and the message about needing to power off.

I've combed through the Console logs and have searched but can find nothing that is solid.

The only BIG change is an upgrade video board. The system now sports a ATI 5770 (Apple branded BTW) which replaced the ATI 2600.

This is a early 2008 MP with 8 cores, 12GB of memory, 4 internal HDs, 2 external HDs, a wired Apple keyboard and a magic mouse.

My latest change after last week's crash was to replace the KText file per a thread regarding smcReadKeyAction. Since doing that replacement (taking from 10.7.3 and replacing the 10.7.4 version - search and find the steps) I have no more of the smcReadKeyAction issues.

Thanks for your reply,

I believe my dad has had at least one KP as well. I'm not sure what's up but it was fine on Snow Leopard.

EDIT: It seems to be faulty RAM for the random crashes.
