Mac Pro 2009 and Areca Raid Boxes

Hi,

I have a question to which I hope someone may have an answer :

I have a beefed up 2009 Mac Pro and would like to wait for the
"next" nmp.

Right now I use a bunch of OWC Elite-AL Pro Qx2 raid boxes.

The Areca ARC-5026 has both USB and Thunderbolt connectors.
If I get one of these & connect to it via the USB port, can I then
daisy chain more Areca boxes via thunderbolt ?

No ... there is no internal USB-to-Thunderbolt conversion (and you can only use one interface at a time).

In order to daisy-chain the Thunderbolt units, you will need to source the Thunderbolt at the Computer end.

That's correct, and even if you could daisy chain what would be the point? You'd be limited by the USB3 port speed.

If you want to run multiple ARC-5026 without TB then get a USB3 hub (or two) and spread them across USB ports to get the best performance until you have a Mac with TB.

Areca Raid Boxes

I'm holding for the next nMacpro, that's just me.

Got the Areca, it's impressive and so much more than
the OWC Elite in whatever form. Ok, it's not in the same
price range, but if I have a choice, losing my data is a
no go.

I have on order a PCIe USB3 which will keep me in business
till then. Right now running on USB2, not the speed I wish for.

But that is one hell of a box.
