Hi I am new to the Mac Pro ownership club.
Ive got a 2009 2.26 8-core with an ATI Radeon 4870 GPU.
When I turn the Mac on, the graphics card whirrs up loud like a hairdryer at full blast, then whirrs down, and only THEN does the Mac chime and boot up. (boot screen works it's not a PC GPU).
This is the first time I've owned a computer with a PCI GPU card. My friend mentioned that he once had a PC that when new, the GPU fan was silent but as the computer aged it eventually started sounding like a jet engine.
It can't possibly be normal for a graphics card to do this upon power-up can it? Is this just the nature of the beast for worn-out graphics cards?
Please share your experience with GPU fan noise.
