I have an option to buy a 2009 Mac Pro and I would only be using it as an iTunes sever. Is it worth it? I hate plex and kodi. iTunes is simple for family and have 3 Apple TV 3's. Have 4tb internal drives of movies.

Mac min + USB external HDD should be a better choice. Mac mini using much less power to do the same job. And iTune server don't need high processing power anyway.

Of course, if you can get the Mac Pro for cheap, and you don't mind to pay more for the electric bill, why not?

Power usage and heat output would be my only worries with regards to using a Mac Pro as an iTunes server. As mentioned, a mini would probably be a much better choice, unless the Pro is *super* cheap.

Overkill...

Could also even buy a NUC and run linux + firefly iTunes server.
