Hi there. With all the buzz about the "new" Mac Pro, I have realized that even if the new Mac Pro comes out in 2013 I probably won't have the resources to purchase it. I am quite happy with my 2009 Mac Pro.

However, I want to upgrade the processor soon. Is there a list of compatible processors for the quad core 2009? I read the Mac Pro Hardware Resource wiki, but the list stops at processor upgrades for the 2008 Mac Pro.

Thank you!
Also, is there any good guides out there for the actual process of replacing it? I replace CPUs on PCs in the past, but never have I done it on the Mac Pro.

There are tons more. Flash 2009 to 2010 for Westmere or stay at 2009 firmware and use Nehalem. Up to you. I would flash and stick a W3680 (6-core 3.33GHz, Turbo Boost to 3.6GHz) in it. Good price point and only 133MHz slower than the fastest Westmere ever made in mass production.
