Hello,

i have Mac Pro 2009 2,66 Ghz Quad Core Intel Xeon, 16Gb memory 1066 MHz DDR3
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB graphics

I have Lion running in my HDD disk. I decided to upgrade and bought Samsung EVO 850 ssd-drive. Clean installed El Capitan and machine worked maybe an hour until it suddenly shut down by itself and started to boot the machine. Now sometimes it will boot the machine and it works fine for a while but then it freezes and starts to boot again. Sometimes it gets stucked in the loading screen or login screen, sometimes it won´t boot at all and i get this kernel panic message on top of the login screen.

I returned the disk and replaced a new one. Same thing. Returned the disk again and orderer OWC Mercury Electra 3G ssd to make sure the disk is 100% compatible. Same thing happens again.

I upgraded the firmare to 5,1 and clean installed Sierra. Same thing. I have tried everything i could find from google, reset PRAM, SMC, boot safe mode, disk repair. I did memtest and Apple Hardware Test and both of them were ok.

I`m lost here. The thing is that the old HDD that is still inside the computer works fine, just like it has worked for years. But as soon as i boot the ssd disk, the problems starts. I have tried the disk for all bays and also without the adapter in optical bay but still the same. Could anyone know what´s going on? I´ve heard many people using ssd drives succesfully in 2009 mac pro´s with no issues at all.

Thanks for any help.

How did you fit the 2,5" to 3,5" slot?
I have an Adaptadrive (orig. Nevertech I believe), which refused to work with my Mac Pro 1.1. I tried a few times with different HDD's and SSD's. But then again, it worked flawlessly with my 4.1, and now it is working perfectly inside a HP Z400.
