Hi,

Please help if you can as my 2010 Mac Pro would not come out of sleep mode, now its keeps crashing when using itunes, Photoshop, email and general use. The grey screen comes down telling me to turn it off. Its always been a reliable machine up to this point. I have turned the sleep mode off. (MAC OS X 10.6.8)

Three months ago I up-graded my ram to 16gb (x2 8gb Kingston), and have taken the ram out which it come with (samsung) as I believe you can not mix different makes of ram. My model is 8- quad core / intel westmere processors, think it the newest model but not certain. Has been working well so don't think this is the problem but other than installing two extra hard drives thats the history of my Mac pro. Currently have a 3rd of free space on my main hard drive.

This problem is not happening all the time but once it starts, after 5 hours use or if it has gone into sleep mode (which I have turned off) but becoming a problem that I have no idea how to solve, tried checking my main drive repair and verified was o.k. I do have apple care but they are not available to call on sundays. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thankyou

What you're describing is a Kernel Panic.

The problem is most probably that your Mac doesn't like the RAM you upgraded it with.
Make sure the RAM is really compatible with your model Mac Pro (MacTracker is your friend here).

And you're mistaken. You can mix and match different RAM vendors.
