Can someone inform me a little bit more about what I want to do...

I am thinking about buying a Samsung MD230X3 setup. More information about the product here:

Basically it is a 3 monitor setup all linked together on one stand. However, from what I can find on-line it looks as though it was designed for the AMD Eyefinity. Conventional wisdom says I should still be able to use them as though they were 3 individual monitors, correct? So if I wanted to go into System Preferences, I could set the dock monitor to the middle and the one one the left to the left and right on the right, correct?

What about the mini-display port to display port cable? I remember reading here recently that there have been some suspect cables from places like momoprice.com and others. Can anyone confirm that there are working mini-display port to display port cables working from the ATI 5770? If so where from.

Lastly, does anyone have any experience with this exact setup?

If it's designed to work with eyefinity, then yes they're seperate cables and you should be able to use them with the MacPro.

I bought a mini-DP to DP cable off ebay from some random in the US and it worked fine for my Dell monitor - YMMV.

Point to note though - $2.1k for that setup is completely outrageous. The monitors are worth at most $300 each (the price you'd pay for an IPS 23" at 1080p) and there's no way a 3 monitor stand is $1200.

I'd rather buy a pair of 27's for the same price and get greater vertical resolution albeit with only two monitors, or more likely: a 30, a 23, and a few nice bottles of single malt.

Would that be...

Thanks for your response. I got so overly excited by the setup of 3 displays with thin bezels and a stand I did not pay attention to the price.

No? You haven't visited monitorsinmotion then. ;) The triple boa sets you back a whopping $1400. Haven't seen a better stand, though.

However, I agree with you. The displays aren't worth that much. For $2100 you can do much better.
