The fan on my Mac Pro 2013 is running continuously after the CPU was upgraded on this machine. It is even running when the computer is in sleep mode.

I reset the PRAM and resent SMC but that didn't make any difference. Is there an app or setting for me to diagnose if the fan got messed up while changing the cpu.

Thanks a lot!!!

Install "MacsFanControl" (free software)

Open it and check the CPU temperature, then decide the next action.

WARNING: MacsFanControl CAN override the system fan setting and cause CPU overheat (if you didn't broke anything but just improper thermal paste application). Do NOT set the fan to lower until you confirm the CPU temperature is normal.

My 2013 Mac Pro was doing the same thing. I eventually found that turning off file sharing (in the sharing pane of system preferences) resolved the issue and allowed the Mac Pro to go to sleep :)

That worked!!! Thanks a lot!!! I had thought that the CPU has some sensor attached to it that went bad or something like that. I couldn't have imagined ever that the file sharing will cause it. I was wondering how did you figure this out.

Did you do the CPU upgrade and you found the problem after the upgrade only?

Great, I'm pleased to have helped.
And no, I have not upgraded my CPU (I have the stock 6-core nMP).
