Mac Pro 3.1 Any SCSI Utilities Around?

Hello All,

I have a Mac Pro 3.1 with a ATTO ExpressPCI UL5D SCSI card installed! I have moved from the Amiga world, and on that platform there are many SCSI programs available for free! But on the Mac with Maverick installed I can't find one SCSI utility available on the net! I know SCSI is dead, but I have a lot of SCSI gear around I would like to use on my Mac Pro! Can anyone direct me to some SCSI programs available on the net! I don't mind paying for a good SCSI program!

What do you mean by SCSI programs. The only SCSI I know of (Small Computer System Interface) was the HDD controller used by Apple up until, I believe, 1999. The last model to employ it was a G3 model. After SCSI, Apple switched to IDE. Over the years there have been interface cards, most notably Adaptec. Whether these still work on the cMP, in the current OS, I couldn't say.

As far as "programs" are concerned you would just need something that would format the SCSI HHD and allow data transfer. Is that what you are talking about?

Just Theory
1. If your 3,1 can see your SCSI card but your SCSI card can't see the drives because they need to be formatted (then)
2. Broaden your search for SCSI utilities including 10.6 (if found)
3. Dual boot your 3,1 with 10.6
4. Use "those" utilities to format the HD's
5. Reboot under 10.9 and check for the HD's still being connected via SCSi
6. Zap the 10.6 partition or keep it for future endeavors!

It is worth a try.

Have not used SCSI gear in years! I do remember a SCSI burner connected to a G3 waaaaaaay back. The only other SCSI gear I had was connected to each other and to a midi interface. List or post photos of the gear you speak of.

Just glanced at the old bookshelf and saw the Norton Utilities 8.0 user guide.
I do remember Norton recognizing SCSI devices. The challenge for you is to find what version is usable on the MP and if that version recognizes SCSI.

10.9 is no-go with ExpressPCI UL5D. Driver support has ended with 10.6.8 IIRC. No driver = no functionality under OS (even simplest).

For 10.6.8 there's an ATTO Config Tool. Most recent version I recall was 3.38.

Hi Merv,

did you ever get any success with the ATTO Express (PCIe ?) SCSI card, I would like to use my tape drive on my Mac Pro 3.1, and was wondering if you had been able to attach any SCSI gear to the Mac pro with success. ?
