Mac Pro 3,1 GPU

Hey all,

I've been generously given a free Mac Pro 3,1 for general file storage and to interface with a couple of Firewire 400 devices that I occasionally still need.

Specs are:
- New SSD that I put in, I know it's only 3Gb/s
- High Sierra (patched)
- 2 x 3.2 Ghz Xeon
- 18GB Ram

Now it's got 512MB VRAM; I think it's an old GT120. Probably a high spec card at the time. I need to run a 4K monitor however, so I will likely put in my Nvidia GTX 760 with the downloaded drivers (I think this works?). My question is, will this machine support a Pascal card? E.g. a basic 1050 2GB?

GTX 760 will work OOB without any additional drivers and give 4K on its DP.

The 1050 should work with WebDrivers, but it might be difficult enabling them, because it (sometimes/often?) requires having SIP enabled, which can be troublesome on a patched installation.

Ahh interesting point about the 1050. Thanks. With my 760, I'm trying to figure out what power cables I need to buy. Seems a bit of trickery is needed?

Mini 6pin PCIe to standard 8pin cable
Mini 6pin PCIe to standard 6pin cable

Do I need to plug in both of these? So much conflicting information on the web...

Just use the cables you need it the card is a single 6 pin just use one if it's dual use two if it's on 6 one 8 use one of each
