Hi,

I Mac 3,1 3.2 GHz with 32 GB 607 MHz RAM.

2 x 16 GB in the Top and Bottom slots.

It has been off for a while but I booted it, I got a Red LED on the top memory slot. I pulled it, took out sticks, cleaned it and and put it back in. Same problem. I swapped the top and bottom cards around and then fault moved. So I pulled a memory card from another 3,1 (2.6 GHz) put he stick into it and tried it. Now both top and bottom LEDs are on. Can the memory cards be moved like this or are they bound in some way to the 3,1?

Could the NVRam battery need changing?

Thanks
Dave

I swapped both memory cards rather than just one, swapped the sticks and working. Do you have it get a matched set of these cards? That seems to be the case here but is this just a coincidence? But they are sold in 1's on ebay? Any tips on what is the best approach, it is worth putting the suspect cards in the other machine with 4 x 2GB 800MHz sticks and seeing what happens?
