Hey, looking for a gaming METAL graphics card for my 3,1. The verdict with the 2008s is weird though..

Looking at:
RX 4XX (No metal though)
RX 5xx
RX 550
RX 560
GTX 680
GTX 7XX?
ANYTHING that can handle gaming and cheap

What do you think is the best cheap option? I don’t care about boot screen, I just want a good card, I’d use the emulator for SSE 4.2. Thoughts?

Thanks

Tight budget especially given gpu prices are the worst they've ever been. Nothing you listed can handle more than very lightweight gaming especially given the specs of the 3,1 are so old. With that in mind I recommend the RX560 if you can find it at 100 or less, much newer and overall solid budget card even for today.

I almost bought one several times but they all sold out…. Mac Vid Cards sells a GT 630 for $140 (way expensive that card retails for like $30)

140$ for a GT630?
I bought my GTX680 for 35$, and flashed it just for fun (boot screen only works on MP 3,1~5,1, not on my MP1,1)
Look for compatible PC card, not worth spending >100$ for such an old machine and graphic card.

Tbh, kinda worried to buy another PC card as they never work.. I am trying to get an RX 560 and emulate SSE 4.2
I bought a GTX 680 the other day for $100 and it never worked (ofc)

What about a GT 710, they are so cheap..

Prices are insane right now..

Also, has anyone tried a GTX 950 or 1060 in a 3,1?

Seen both of those, the top guide does not specify what cards work with what Mac. I bought an MSI RX 560 2GB brand new for $99 after tax, I'm gonna test it out

If you have already bought the MSi RX560, take a look at the below posts for reference.

Thanks, already installed the SSE 4.2 emulator thru the DosDude Mojave patch using my 8800GT, I made sure to not install the Legacy Video Card patch, and then removed the old card, waiting for the new one
