Hi, I have a Mac Pro 2008 8-core 2.8Ghz. 1 Year ago I upgraded the 24GB RAM that it came with to 32GB. The past 2 weeks it has been randomly restarting with absolutely no warning, and no Kernel Panic message. also, I checked the 'About This Mac' info thing and it said I only had 24GB of RAM installed! It says that i have 2 free slots but all of them are in use..

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks

I had the same issues. The ram has gone bad unfortunately, remove the bad dims and see how it performs.

The other thing to try is make sure you have the ram order correctly installed for it to run in dual channel.

Thanks for the reply. This may sound a bit dumb, but what is 'ram order'?

It's the order of the RAM ... ;)

I have the same Mac, and in this model RAM modules are supposed to be installed in a specific order/pattern across the carriers . I don't have a link ready, but the info should be easy to find ( 'Macpro 3.1 ram configuration' search or such ) .

As for your issue, I had that happen when the power supply went bad ; but since you have noticed RAM problems, you could do a hardware test, or just open her up and check for red lights on the memory risers , indicating trouble with a particular module(s) .

Remove modules as necessary ; sometimes reseating a fishy module helps too .

Below you should also see a list of similar threads, looks like it has happened before .
