Hi guys!

I am running an early 2009 single CPU Mac Pro 4.1, successful updated with the 5.1 firmware.
After the installation of a 6 core Xeon with 3.46Ghz and 4 x 8GB HYNX 1333Mhz ECC Ram, everything is running fine, except one minor issue :

The rams are only recognized as 1066Mhz instead of 1333Mhz. The funny part is, these rams are running in another (Original) Mac Pro 5.1 correctly.

Can someone help me?

I have an 4.1 flashed 5.1 , with 32 gb Ram,
actually i am in 10.6.8 > go to El capitan ,but problem ..
do you install High sierra in first step or 10.6.8 > 10.8.x > 10.9.x > 10.10 etxxx ?
if you can help me , thanks a lot

Unless you boot El Capitan installer from a disc / USB thumb drive, running the El Capitan installer in 10.6.8 directly may not be allowed (10.8 may be required).

Hi !

I have the same problem ! I just upgrade from 48 to 96GB Samsung RAM on my 4.1>5.1 Dual X5690 Mac Pro, but even after a "two bong" NVRAM reset, the new RAM is still 1066 MHz.

I don't understand because the 48GB were running 1333MHz without any problem and I bought the same (6x16BG instead of 6x8) ; using the same slots and of course, still running X.14.6…

Can't find the mistake…

Thanks !

Try 3 resets in a row (4 bongs).

Which slots are the DIMMs installed in? Post a screenshot of the “Memory” tab of your About this Mac window.

Thank you Soba for your fast answer ! Just tried 4 bongs, but still 1066…

Hm, can you also post the part numbers of the DIMMs that you installed? There should be a sticker on each DIMM with this information. (Also, verify that all DIMMs have the same part number.)

Here we are !

All the DIMMs are the same :

16GB 4Rx4 PC3 - 10600R - 09 - 10 - F0 - 02
M393B2K70CM0 - CH9 1147

But I aslo checked my "old" DIMMs :
8GB 2Rx4 PC3 - 10600R - 09 - 10 - E1 - D2
M393B1K7CHD - CH9 1029

I see the new is "4Rx4" and the "old is "2Rx4"… So, regarding to the thrid post here is the mistake…

Do you think I have to send it back and try to find a 2Rx4 kit ?

Thank you again for helping me (and sorry for my poor English ! I used to be not so bad, but I didn't practice for a long time !)

When 4Rx4 (quad rank) DIMM, works with MP5,1, works at 1066MHz or slower. You have to buy dual rank ECC Registerd DIMMs to have it working at 1333MHz.

Thank you again ! In fact, I have checked the one I bought, but I'm still learning ;-)
