Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has any tips or experience with using a cMP as a streaming machine? I want to use it to capture my PS4 gameplay (1080p 60fps (if the PS4 allows it)) and stream it to YouTube/Twitch in combination with my webcam. Any capture hardware/software you can recommend? Is this even possible on a 2009 machine?

My cMP specs:
  • 2x Xeon X5690 3,46GHz
  • 2x AMD RX 480 8GB Reference model
  • 32GB RAM 1333 MHz DDR3
  • macOS Mojave 10.14.2 on a Samsung EVO 850 500GB SSD
  • StarTech 5-port USB 3.1 PCIe expansion card
Cheers!

Bumping this old post.

I still want to stream/record PS4 gameplay from my cMP, and I have not had any luck getting decent video quality. I have tried OBS, Elgato Game Capture, and Wirecast Pro with poor results. The recordings are dropping frames and the audio desyncs and distorts. Elgato has the best results with the least amount of dropped frames and decent audio.

My gameplay recording chain:

PS4 -> HDMI splitter -> Elgato Cam Link 4K -> Sonnet Allegro™ USB-C 4-Port PCIe (Gen 2) -> EVO 850 SSD -> Capture software.

I have AMD hardware acceleration enabled, but that does not give any better results. I have tried the lowest settings on all capture software, but that does not improve the quality, and the recording still drops a lot of frames. Changing the recording resolution also yields no positive results.

Is there any improvement to be had, can I try upgrading the GPU or trying a different capture card? Or is my Mac just too old to capture 1080p 60fps?

Cheers!

Not sure if hd60 s has any advantages over the cam link, but it’s worth a try. Maybe even the hd60 pro pcie card.

Also, my father-in—law is using the hd60 s on his mid 2012 unibody mbp And it was a significant upgrade to the old usb 2.0 Elgato Video Capture adapter, even when he uses an rca to HDMI adapter for the older tech.
