Afternoon everyone,

Having a very interesting issue with some of my Mac Pros. Both of which refuse to power on. The red leds for the cpus show up when plugging into power, and the amber led goes on to show the 5v as well.

Aside from this, there is no power, no fans, no chime. Nothing

What's confusing to me is that they are both having this issue, the power supplies appear to be good as the board is getting power, but i am unsure if that confirms they are ok.

Any ideas on what this could be? Cheers, Max

are both machines different or do you put parts from 4,1 to 5,1 like the GPU?

if not, buy a spare, working 5,1 and swap parts. If, lets say, both PSUs are bad you will not get further.

You can try, if the 4,1 has still the 4,1 firmware to swap the CPU Tray from 4,1 to 5,1 but not reverse. Get full fans but thats ok for a diagnosis run.

i cant see what firmware they have as it doesn't allow me to boot at all. When i press the power button, nothing happens. The only sign of life i get is the red leds flashing, and the amber led that goes on when i press/hold the diag led

theres no point in buying another one (unless i find a good deal) as these go for well over $500 alone in my country.

I had several Mac Pros die at the same time, identical issue as you.

Four 4.1s and a 6.1 died!!!! o_O

I used to live by the sea and the condensation caused corrosion on the motherboard.

When I took the 6.1 for repair, the App Store claimed it had had water spilled inside it!!!

I did take apart a 4.1 and found the condensation had mixed with dust and created a thick sludge around some parts of the motherboard, especially near the heatsink of the cpu tray.

If you have time, take it all apart and use isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush to wash and clean the circuit boards and hope that that fixes it.

I'm about 2km away from the ocean, so might be a reason for it.

I've got time so ill give that a go later on today. Cheers

So you can try at least to swap cpu boards.
The 4.1 works in the 5.1 with full fans.

I guess the 5.1 will at least power on the 4.1 if its not crossflashed.

If the 4.1 is crossflashed, the 5.1 cpu board works in the 4.1 with full fans, too.

With pulled batteries the Macs should start after plugging in.

But this is working on corpses. To test effectively one needs known working components.
