Mac Pro 4,1 Bluetooth Issue

Did a search on the forms and looks like the only solution is ordering a external antenna and mounting the antenna on the outside of the case. Is that still the best solution at this time?

Not for me, I'd prefer to not have a big antenna sticking out of my beautiful machine.

I bought a USB Bluetooth adapter and connect my mouse that way. You will need to pull the wire on the internal BT module though. If not, you may have sleep issues.

I recommend going with the USB adapter. There's a good link here somewhere that explains all options. I'll try to find it for you.

I hooked up an external antenna from a linksys pci wifi card and bluetooth is perfect now. Ugly antenna is hidden in the back, easy mod no permanent modification to the computer. Before the mouse would skip around with the computer 4 ft away under my desk, now it works from clear across the room.

Didn't u have to drill a hole in the PCIe slot though? The USB adapter solution is the easiest and cheapest IMO. Unplugging the BT cable is very easy and can easily be plugged back in if you ever need to.

There are three solutions I'm aware of.

1) You can insert a USB Wi-Fi adapter, and if that isn't enough, you can use an USB extension cord to place the adapter somewhere advantageous to reception.

2) You can swap the antenna wires around inside, which has resulted in success for many people but not all.

3) You can go for the external antenna solution as you've already found in your search.

I just went through this issue with an 09 4,1 Mac pro using Apple care!



I ended up getting a new Bluetooth card and antenna first, to no avail!

I ended up getting the processor, daughter board, & ram changed on 2nd attempt, to no avail.


Third time around, they changed the entire enclosure, and the Motherboard. This time it fixed it!


If you have apple care keep on them and you will get a new machine practically!
