Hi All,

Looking for some help please.

I have recently aqquired a mac pro 4,1 dual processor and for some reason i can't get it to boot up the display.

When switching it on i can hear the chime and also disk spinning but i can't get the thing to output to a display.

Things i have tried so far are
2 different compatible GPUs
removing all memeory and booting ( which gave the flashing power light to indicate no memeory)
removed the optical drive
reseated memory
replaced cmos battery
checked heatsinks
tried moving gpus in to different slots
reset the NVRAM and SMC

I'm really at a loss with this thing so if anyone can offer some sugestions.

I have attached the diag leds ( do theese look right )

Many thanks in advance

Stupid question, but have you tried it with another display?
I haven’t but I know the display works as I’ve got my laptop and another desktop connected on different inputs.

what GPUs exactly (they need EFI64 preBoot support, aka bootscreen) ?
GPU’s I’ve tried is the ATI Radeon HD 4870 which I believe came with the machine and also a NVIDIA GT120 which I purchased off fleabay.

I don’t doubt that the display works, but there should be doubt if the display works with the Mac, or rather the other way around. I read a lot that Macs have problems with external monitors for no apparent reason.

Cool I’ll try a different display

How you are connecting the display to the GPU? It's a VGA one?
No it’s dvi to DP

DVI to DP could be problematic, better try mini Displayport to Displayport. GT120 should work, at least you should get a white picture with a ? indicating there is no System avail.

Happy to help, although, not happy to know you went through all this work that’s way too techy for me just to find out it’s probably just Apple‘s negligence of fixing their monitor support. Man ?
Anyway, I hope you’ll find a solution to have it work with your monitor, now that the ball is rolling. The best of luck ??
Oh, and feel free to keep us updated with your progress ???
