Mac Pro 4,1 GTX 660 and Yosemite :: Questions about support

Hello.

I have a Mac Pro 4,1 8 core with GTX 660 SC

I want to upgrade to Yosemite and have some questions about the GPU

Most of my questions are answered on the 'FAQ about NVIDIA cards' on the forum, and I apologise for asking the same thing but I want to be sure that everything will work since I need this computer for a Film project I am running and I do not have the comfort of something going wrong.

First of all, I can see that Nvidia Web drivers are available for 10.10 and 10.10.1
Are these drivers made only to support the latest nvidia gpu? Or is there support for the GTX 600 series as well?

When I upgrade to Yosemite where does the OS upgrade installation put my old Web drivers? Does it remove them? How does this work?

I remember when I had PCs, you had to uninstall a Graphics driver if you had a different GPU than the drivers you have installed.

When I upgrade my Mac OS how does this work for my GPU drivers?

600 should work out of the box, my GTX 650 worked without the drivers

I quote the FAQ Nvidia post that says,

These can be found by searching for Quadro 4000 drivers on NVIDIA's site, you won't find anything if you search for a GTX 570 or GTX 680 for example since those cards are not officially supported. If you are using a PC card, it is recommended that you always run the latest driver from NVIDIA's site, even if the base OS version allows your card to work out of the box.

Now I ask, since the 570 or 680 series are not supported then should I download a Quadro 4000 driver? And if yes, Why?

I am confused here. Does anyone know?

There is a difference between being "unsupported" and "not officially supported." The NVIDIA PC cards are "not supported by Apple" but they will work plug and play on recent iterations of OS X. You don't need to install any drivers at all. Just replace your card, reset your PRAM, and reboot.
