I have a Mac Pro 2009 4,1 flashes to 5,1 single CPU
I recently ordered a Mac Pro Dual CPU but the seller listed it as 4,1 when it was in fact a 5,1.. Soo I was going to send it back but after doing research and seeing the SMC is not compatible.. but then during my search I found a few 5,1 (2010-2012) logic boards on eBay for $99-$150 and for me, that’s stupid cheap and reasonable,
so question is:
I have a 4,1 shell(case) and a 5,1 dual cpu tray.. would there be any reason as to why I couldn’t disassemble the Mac 4,1 remove the 2009 logic board and replace it with the 2012 logic Board ? all the macs from 2009-2012 seem to be the same A1289 model and all the same parts?
I can’t seem to find any answers to this, I see soooo many posts about “you cannot put 5,1 tray in 4,1 LB as the SMC is different” and vis versa but I have not seen anyone Comment on both a logic board and tray swap.
I paid $190 for this Mac Pro 4,1 and I already have a vast majority of parts from a previous build (a few years ago)
I paid $500 for the dual CPU tray with 64GB ram, so another $167 for a logic board to make it all a real 5,1 doesn’t really bug me or hurt my wallet.
Thanks for the input
