I have downloaded the file. Is it safe to run it now? Does the computer need to communicate to the internet to accomplish the flash?

I plan on pulling all the drives out and installing single drive with Lion or Mountain Lion.

I don't think there is any need to pull any drives out. Just run the file.

You don't need internet and you don't need to pull drives out. You need a video card with Mac EFI.

Put the 5,1 firmware image on the desktop, but don't mount it. Run the updater utility.

All done.

I removed all drives, installed lion in drive in first bay.
Mounted the 5,1 firmware then ran the flash tool.

I just wonder. I have a firmware updated 4,1 to 5,1 MacPro and want to update to HS. But there is a Apple firmware needed. It is save to do this new firmware and update to HS?

Also I have a non efi-graficcard in my MacPro. Is it necesssary to switch back to efi-card for this firmware update?

Thanks for any help on this.
