Mac Pro 2009 4,1 flashed to 5,1 | 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon | 48 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 | OS X 10.15.7 | Radeon RX 590 8 GB |

Also Windows 10 installed via BootCamp on 1TB SSD - all working nicely.

And then I got a 7 port USB 3.0 PCIe card, on the assumption, it'd go in a spare slot and just work. Which it partly does.

I can see the seven USB 3.0 instances in my system report. When I plug things in like HDDs and USB keys, they get power and seem to liven up. But, I can't see anything on the desktop or in Disk Utility. So the devices are there getting power but not showing up in the Mac.

Q: can any one tell me how to get USB devices to function on my new 7 port USB3.0 PCIe card?

Any advice or tips would be appreciated

I looked up that card (PCE7USB-R05) on another site.
There's a note:
Note: Windows 10/11 does not require a driver,Mac OS is not supported.
Does that card work when you are booted to Windows?

Yep works fine in Windows

Now I've learnt to do my research before buying.

I did read that it supports Linux so I thought: "Mac OS is a little like Linux".

C'est la vie

The USB controller of that card is not supported by macOS.

What makes you think those buses belong to the PCI card? If you disconnect the PCI card you'll see that they all remain because they belong to the Mac Pro. Also, if you select them, then you can see that the are USB 2.0 (EHCI) or USB 1.1 (UHCI or OHCI) buses instead of USB 3.x buses (XHCI).

The PCI card probably has one USB controller (USB bus) for the first 3 ports and a 4 port hub is connected to the 4th port of the USB controller.

This card is based on NEC/Renesas uPD720201 USB controller.

NEC/Renesas is known for the lack of macOS support for their products, even product that oficially supported macOS, the drivers only go up to Mavericks.

Time to return the card, if possible.

Btw, most of what you marked as 7-port USB card, are the native USB OHCI ports, like the port where the BT USB controller sits.

Thank you gentlemen, I live and learn. I've removed the card. Cheap education.
