I'm just about to place an order for a refurbished Mac Pro 5,1, and was intending to source a GeForce GTX 780 Ti for it. I know that the standard GTX 780 is supported (albeit sans boot screens), but I was wondering if anyone has tried the Ti version yet? I know they're fundamentally very similar, but I want to avoid any embarrassment when I load it up and can't get any video output

Last month I tried to set up my gaming PC with a 780Ti as a temporary hackintosh. I failed because the 780Ti isn't supported in Mavericks. It's all explained here:

I read this thread as saying that neither OpenCL nor OpenGL works with this card in OSX and the nvidia driver currently doesn't support the 780Ti. I couldn't get the 780Ti to boot to the desktop at all no matter which bootflags I used.
It's not a problem for the GTX 780 per se, it's a problem with the new chip, the GK110B (Revision B). Nvidia has not provided new Web Drivers and Apple has not updated it's drivers it handle the Revision B chip. We all expect new drivers will alleviate the issues. But, both Nvidia and Apple are being very slow to respond.
I am happily running a MVC Flashed Over Clocked Gigabyte GTX 780 in my 5,1 Mac Pro, but it is the GK110A (Revision A) chip.

That's interesting, thanks for that. Is there any way of knowing exactly what you're buying so as to ensure you get an A revision-based card? I've ordered a plain GTX 780 but now I'm concerned that I'm buying a card that may not work for me
^^^^I believe any new GTX 780 based card purchased now, will be the "B" revision chip. MacVidCards (The premier Macintosh Graphic card upgrader) has a shelf full of "B" revision cards that he can't sell because of the driver issue. Some members here have "B" revision cards that they are holding on to until (when) the drivers are updated.
With that being said, you may be able to find a revision "A" card, but I don't believe retailers have a way of knowing which revision is in the sealed box on the shelf. Used cards would be a better bet, but the seller must be savvy enough to know the difference.

Well, I tweeted at the @nvidia official Twitter presence, and an Nvidia marketing exec replied to me. I sent a few more tweets explaining the situation, and he just replied to say Working on it. Maybe we'll get a happy resolution to this after all!
