Hello,

I have a 2009 Mac Pro 12-core 3.46Ghz, 128 GB RAM, Nvidia 680 GTX 4GB desktop computer.
I was wondering if these specs are enough for me to be able to use an Oculus Rift without any problems by partitioning the hard drive and installing Windows?

Any help is appreciated.

Anthony

Well, you're way beyond the requirements on RAM at least. Regarding CPU you have a damn lot of cores, but the minimum requirements lists a Haswell i5, which has substantially faster single-thread performance, so depending on how well the extra threads are utilised that may or may not be an issue, but I'd wager a guess that you'll be alright in most cases.
The GPU on the other hand is not at all up to snuff. Minimum requirements is a GTX 970 or AMD R9 290X.

Got ya...thank you so much for the prompt reply. You've been very helpful

I use an HTC Vive with my Mac Pro (2 x 3,33 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon, 48GB RAM, RX 580). I have to run just about everything on 'Low' settings, but it does work. Sometimes I become CPU bound, I play a lot of racing simulators, but the majority of the time my GPU is the limiting factor.

At some point I'll probably upgrade the GPU, I'm waiting to see what Navi brings to the table, but the more logical thing to do would be to build a custom PC and throw a NVIDIA GPU in it.

I used to used an Oculus DK2. One thing to note is that the Oculus software will constantly warn you that your CPU doesn't meet the minimum requirements. You can ignore/turn off that warning, it will work.

Another thing to note is that Oculus Rift is Win 10 only these days. I run it on my 2009 Mac Pro (upgraded processors) and an RX580 - works perfectly fine for most 'experiences', but you do get the odd issue with things not launching. Mainly used for Elite and War Thunder.
